my first dress. i think.

I just finshed making a dress for myself.  I believe it's the first dress I've ever made for myself.  My plan is to wear it out to dinner on my husbands birthday.  I wouldn't let him see it while I was making it, nor would I let him see it once it was finished.  It's nothing amazing or anything, so don't get excited, but it's cute.  It's a size too small though - which has me really bummed out.  It's snug :-(

I would post pictures of the dress right now (since Kevin doesn't read my blog) but since Kevin won't be seeing it until his birthday I won't be able to get any pictures of myself in the dress until then.  Mid Feb.  I can post a picture of the pattern though (McCalls M6518):

Since making this dress I've found a few other dress patterns that I'm interested in.  I might make a dress for a late-Feb. dinner.  I might make a dress for random casual spring/summer affairs.  hmmmm.

I think I also want a dressform.

JAM....that's good jam!

I decided there was no better time to attempt making jam and canning it than Christmas.  :-)

Actually, I stumbled across a recipe on The Simple Dollar that inspired the whole thing.  Before then I had no interest in jam and little interest in canning.

In the end, I made a dozen cars of jam and was really pleased with the end result.  I definitely plan to make jam again.  I definitely plan to can again.  And I definitely plan to make this particular jam again.

dino

I made a baby blanket the other day for no real reason.  I just liked the fabric.  I went ahead and put it on my etsy site.  check it out. http://www.etsy.com/listing/90401864/baby-blanket-dinosaur-flannel-and-green

scarves

I went ahead and made 2 more scarves like the one below - except these two were made with the appropriate ruffledness (a word?).

I made them, quite honestly, because I had the red fabric laying around and I really enjoyed making the white one.

The red scarves feature funky shaped pearl beads in the center of the flowers.

ruffle scarf

I wanted Claire to give something special to her Godmother for Christmas, so I made a scarf that her Godmother once showed me by Mama Says Sew.  Fortunately, Mama Says Sew offers a tutorial on how to make the scarf.  Mine didn't come out as ruffle-y as it should have, but that was my fault for cutting the fabric in the wrong direction.  In the end, although it wasn't the way it "should have been", I still really liked it.  I'm even thinking about making more in the near future.
